Pricing Made Easy With Inktavo's Direct-To-Film Pricing Calculator
Been reading this book again as well. Not doing email first and letting people know it’s only checked once a day has been a huge change for me. Something small and easy to start right away.
What's this company he is referring to as Kickstarter for shirts? FYI I don't think most of their shirts are screen printed anymore, it seems only their Yetee Mart ones are, esp their GDQ shirts even from 2019, which I get with modern DTG printers taking seconds and require less manpower while providing near equal quality I can't complain esp at ~30K orders, my 2019 GDQ shirt looks not bad if truly DTG considering... Their site says they do use DTG or sublimation on top of screen, yet they don't seem to list them as such as stated they would in FAQ, HOWEVER (and I mean however) the "cracking" in my shirts is far from the worst I've seen compared to newer shirts from other companies that do use purely DTG. I love their work and quality, and will keep buying from them, been buying from them since 2015 and will continue to do so.
Would you say there’s any downside to using higher mesh counts for simple text designs? I’ve always used 230 by default for everything from high detail halftones to just text. Should I be using lower mesh counts for simple text?
The key is to do what YOU want. If that means working many hours on YOUR business, then do it. Don't let anyone else tell you how to value your time.
That does make sense! Thank you for this
It's true today..
How many more episodes about delegating do I need to hear before I start delegating? This one hit home, so hopefully this is the last one. Thanks dudes

As someone who worked in Internet marketing with a company called Golden Hippo Media and now owning a screen printing shop, this podcast is absolutely on point.
I just signed up with S&S (normally use Alpha) and phone rep has no idea about how to even get you a list of contract decorators you can work with very bizarre. Rep said “Google it” and when I did all that pops up is an S&S website talking about the program with no way of contacting a decorating partner in your area or anywhere. Truly one of the most bizarre experiences ever.
One of the most impressive facilities I have seen so far amazing!
never understood selling transfers. Like he said, it's a race to the bottom. I left all those DTF pages. It was disgusting watching everyone squirm over orders. I've had a DTF printer for almost a year now and have sold a handful of transfers ever. I'm not interested in the headache of selling transfers for the cheapest, the fastest, out there. I buy quality film, powder, and ink and sell only finished products.
Everyone that sees a hypnotist gets duped. That's the only way they make money.
Steve Sounds like he's channeling his inner Jeff Tweedy here.
How do i get coaching?
Need bitcoin on the balance sheet.
Great timing for this one! I took a business building class this week and am working on doubling my revenue by the end of the year.
Is there a video that talks about the beginning stages of being a printshop?
Vinyl records and cassette tapes are still storming back and increasing sales year by year. DTF looks terrible. It's great for 10 color Adobe Illustrator artwork, but it can't do the subtleties that screenprinting offers.
Steven & Bruce, will you please help me scale my screen printing shop? I am just getting started. I moved into my store last Saturday and I literally feel lost!
I really miss those Printavo days Bruce talked about, where focus was on making a great product. I don’t care about scale if we have to lose site of creating quality products and experiences for our customers.
outstanding guys, one of the best print podcasts I have ever seen
Really great podcast!!!
Hey thanks for the shoutout. We run 10 autos at 2 shifts for 10 hours per shift at this point. So very solid point on point made on our model..
This is the best episode I’ve seen yet! I’m amazed more people don’t watch & study these videos. Great lessons from many years ago with great analysis for the future ! Thank you guys great guest. !
Kyle from five boys is the man
Hey I got a question, my local printshop has a bunch of graphic shirts that they sell, but i don't think they sell very many, what do print companies do with all the shirts they printed and don't sell?
Donate them give them out to clients
most amazing part is the marketing monday part. I cant believe you can do so much in a hour lol
What about the mimaki dtf machines? I have heard there not as fast, but reliable. I would love to know if you'd heard anything?
Hoodies are a pain in the ass. Also do runs of 1000. Low mesh and lots of spray tack. More off contact than tees. Make sure to use eye protection and keep that shit out of your lungs.
I just retired from UPS in November, was there for 40yrs. I build my company with bussiness and customer on route. 😂
I've heard that "if you're not spending 6-7k a month outsource" figure before. It was impossible for me to turn a profit doing that. Nobody wants to pay $15-20 a piece for cheap blanks with pressed transfers for it to make sense. I tried multiple companies that had multiple commercial printers. The industry is already flooded with people that don't care about supporting their product. I had transfers come with prints where the heads were clearly misaligned, prints covered in glycerin, and so many other issues. These companies are at a race to the bottom trying to sell the transfers as cheap and faster than the next guy that they don't have a margin to stand behind it. The DTF support groups are now just full of people saying exactly what you said, that they should be buying thousands of dollars of transfers a month before getting equipment. "Your issue is with the transfers you bought! Buy mine instead! $1.50 a sq/ft 3 hour turn around!" I finally bought my own printer a year ago. I wasn't buying anything near thousands of dollars of transfers a month. I inspect every print I press. I often change settings based on what it's going on, the design, and it's given me way better control, margin, and getting things out faster than I ever could before. I don't even print everyday. I have 5 printers, all for different purposes. One DTF printer. So my business is far from just apparel decoration. I have been making money hand over fist since I was able to get my equipment dialed in. It took a lot of trial and error testing different consumables, replacing parts, testing profiles, but now that I've got a lot of the bugs worked out I can't press shirts fast enough.
Dead end, likely. A human level robot - available in 2025 - will cost a fraction, do the same job, but also be able to handle other tasks (i.e. cleaning up). The main point, though, is the price. It will likely pay back within months.
What happens if theres a round of misprints. I do see many issues still
Datacamp is 150 a yr. Python and C languages make this happen. Every part for prototyping is on Alibaba. All of it. The slide to separate the shirt from the platen is an excellent idea, I'll have to write that down
He seems to be at 'peak humour' here. A nice talk, and some little insights too. A good guy. Gone way too soon.
Pay yourself first for business
Love how Justin inspires and encourages people. We judged skills USA together last year and I really got to see how he made people feel seen and important.
